Walleye

The Walleye (lat. Sander vitreus) belongs to the pike perch family. It is an inhabitant of fresh water bodies in most of Canada and the northern United States. It is found from Massachusetts to southern Arizona, northern Nevada and New Mexico. Its elongated body has a spindle-shaped form. The sides are colored olive-brown or golden-brown. The belly is usually yellow or white. There are large dark spots on the back. With age, its body becomes more compressed from the sides. This toothy predator eats small fish, crustaceans, worms and insects. The average weight of the Walleye is 1-6 kg. The maximum recorded weight of the fish was 11.5 kg.
