Turbot
Scophthalmus maximus is a bottom fish found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The turbot prefers a benthic lifestyle and thrives in both sandy and sandy-pebble substrates. Its optimum depth range is from 10 to 70 m. The body is diamond-shaped and strongly laterally compressed. The coloration of the eye side of the body depends largely on the coloration of the bottom and varies from light gray or yellowish to dark gray or dark brown with numerous dark and light dots. Its blind side is usually whitish with scattered dark spots. The fins are dark brown, studded with light speckles. The average length of an adult is 40-70 cm, can reach a length of over a meter in weight of 25 kg. They are usually caught with a special flying collar rig.
