Spotted Gar
The range of Spotted Gar (lat. Lepisosteus oculatus) occupies a vast territory from the Great Lakes to the mouth of the Mississippi. They can also be found in rivers on the border of the United States and Mexico. The spotted gar has a torpedo-shaped body covered with dense diamond-shaped scales. The head has a strongly elongated snout, resembling a beak. The jaws are equipped with a large number of long and sharp teeth, which allow it to effectively grab and hold prey. The location of the bulging eyes provides it with almost 360-degree vision. The color varies from light to dark olive. Large dark spots are located on the head and all over the body. The average weight of an adult gar ranges from 0.3 to 3 kg. The maximum weight is 5 kg.
