Gizzard shad
The Gizzard shad (lat. Dorosoma cepedianum) is a freshwater fish belonging to the herring family. It is a typical representative of freshwater ecosystems in North America. During the day, it makes vertical migrations in search of food. The gizzard shad has a high body covered with small scales. The back is colored dark brown, turning into almost white on the belly. Some adult fish can have a completely dark color. Average weight from 0.2 to 1 kg. Maximum weight is 2 kg.
