
Freshwater drum


The Freshwater drum (lat. Aplodinotus grunniens) is one of the most common fish species in North America. Found in freshwater bodies from Hudson Bay to Guatemala. Its diet consists mainly of aquatic insect larvae, crustaceans, and mussels but it can also feed on fish. The freshwater drum high, laterally compressed body, depending on the transparency of the water, can have a silvery or bronze color. The head is rounded with a small mouth. Adult freshwater drum weigh on average from 1 to 13 kg. The maximum weight can reach 25 kg.
