It prefers to live in the coastal zone in shallow water and likes to hide under rocks. The carapace of the edible crab has a reddish-brown color and in its appearance resembles a closed pie. The front pair of its limbs are powerful claws, the tips of which are painted black. Its remaining limbs are covered with short stiff bristles and also have sharp black tips.
