

European chimaera


The European chimeera is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas of the Arctic Ocean. Off the coast of Norway, most often found at a depth of 120-500 m. The chimera has an elongated body pointed toward the tail and a thick head with a rounded snout. Its back is dark brown with a reddish tint, and it has spotted flanks and a pale belly. Adults are up to one and a half metres long.
