

Black ruff


Centrolophus niger is found at temperate latitudes in the northern and southern Atlantic and southeastern Pacific Oceans, away from the coast. Adult specimens prefer to stay at depths of about 100 meters. The Black ruff has a small head and an oval, laterally compressed body uniformly colored brown. Adults are usually between 45 and 84 cm long. The maximum recorded length is 150 cm.
