Alligator gar
During the Cretaceous period, species of gar were widespread almost all over the world. The Alligator Gar (lat. Atractosteus spatula) can now be found exclusively in the waters of North America. The body is torpedo-shaped and covered with thick, diamond-shaped and almost impenetrable scales. The fish is colored brown or olive. The belly is lighter - gray or yellow. Powerful elongated jaws are decorated with sharp teeth. The location of the eyes provides the fish with almost all-round visibility. This relic predator prefers places with dense plants. The maximum weight of an adult alligator gar can reach 140 kg.
